Running Backs - ok, YOU tell Me

Ok, if everyone is so comfortable with our running game, let's postulate on the Running Back/Fullback situation some more: What's the final roster look like? Remember to show your work or it doesn't count.

RB:
B-west
C-Buck
Moats
Mahe

Fullback:
Tapeh

I know, I know, it hurts!! Make it go away!

Ok, what are the chances that Westy gets hurt 5 years in a row? It's got to be low, right? Right?...

I was still kind of hopeful for Steven Davis, but he just got picked up by the Rams.

What are the chances that Westy gets hurt 5 years in a row? Before you answer, remember he's wearing a Philadelphia Eagles uniform -- the most cursed sports team, from the most cursed city in history (and by "history" I just mean as far back as I can remember). So unfortunately, the chances may be pretty good...

I think I agree with JDubs on the RBs, but tend to think they like Parry for FB for reasons that still escape me.

As for Paulomon's take on Doooose, I think it's probably not a bad gamble. The guy was, undisputably, a monster up the middle. But what always impressed me the most about him was his second effort. Somehow he always seemed to get an extra yard or two on his way down to the ground -- all toughness. Yeah, he's been injured on and off lately, but at least that gave his body a rest from the punishment. (Okay, maybe that's a Jdub perspective). If we really only need a back for real short yardage, I can't imagine he'd be worse than Tapeh. Tapeh hasn't impressed me at all.

Tonight's game might be fun, since we seem to have a glut of average players like Tapeh right on the bubble...

Yeh, I agree with JDubs on that final list too, unfortunately. It's just a disappointing lineup for a playoff team like the Birds are now. Every year we have an Ackilles heal and this might be it this year. If the Brook stays healthy and BUck can play tough for most of the season, we should be ok. Moats and Mahe are going to be useless during the regular season except to give those other guys a breather now and then.

I would prefer that they dump Mahe and take Duce back to see what he can do for us - I think he still has something to contribute...if nothing else, the COBL would love to be yelling "Duuuuuce" every time he touched the ball - I think he still bleeds Green and would lay it all out on the field...much like Mahe though...except Mahe just lays on the field.

Oh well, all in all, we're in much better shape than I thought we'd be in. AJ and Avant looked sharp tonight, and a I suppose Gaffney is getting the ax. SO now, it begins...

Big bodied RB's available as of Sat @ 0730: Eric Shelton, Cedric Humes (both rookies) Antwain Smith and mostlikely Ron Dayne (vets). I would consider Dayne over all of them, strictly for short yardage and to spell Westy and Buck. But, would not be against giving Shelton or Humes a go. Keep everything young w/ potential.

Has anyone else noticed that Ron Dayne gets all kind of media hype even though he's been cut by like 3 teams and has never ever performed in the NFL? I wonder if his name is just catchy or something. Dayne might be the biggest bust since Dolly Parton.

That is true about Dayne. He very occasionally has a decent outing but all in all a complete bust for an accomplished college athlete like he was...I guess that's it, people are still hoping that he develops at some point - maybe he'll peak when he hits 40.
