Simon says... I won't report either

From the Daily News:

Agent, Simon dig in their heels: DT won't sign offer, won't report
By LES BOWEN

IT HAS BEEN MORE than 3 months since agent Roosevelt Barnes said Corey Simon wouldn't sign the Eagles' 1-year, $5.13 million franchise tender any time soon, and wouldn't attend minicamps or training camp.

Well, the minicamps are far behind us, the tender remains unsigned, and training camp starts for rookies on Friday, for veterans such as Simon on Monday. Barnes reiterated yesterday that fans shouldn't expect to see the Eagles' standout defensive tackle at Lehigh.

Simon is an average DT at best. Patterson will fill in fine. He is faster and his thighs don't rub together when he walks.

i agree. we don't even need Simon. he's good, but he's overrated and we have other guys who can fill his shoes.

I agree that we are pretty deep at DT, but still think Corey is much better than average, at least when he's in shape.

But in my opinion, the rest of our DTs seem pretty good, but slightly below Corey. Everyone has high hopes for Patterson, and he seems like he'll definitely be exciting to watch. Darwin is solid, but not great. Rayburn is getting better and better and is strong as an ox on MLB-issue steroids. Who knows about Hollis, altho he's worth being on the roster just for comic value. But will Grasmanis, or any of our rookies for that matter, really make up for Simon? I don't know.

So I'd definitely rather have Corey than not have him. The only problem is that he is overrated -- by himself and his agent. I get the impression he's asking more than any team is really willing to pay.
